The Human Algorithms

Discover the Invisible Code Shaping Your Life

Every thought, emotion, habit, and decision follows a pattern.

In The Human Algorithms, psychologist Swati Lahiri Basu introduces a practical framework for understanding how human behaviour is formed and how it can be transformed. Drawing on psychology, neuroscience, and real-world experience, this book helps readers uncover the hidden processes that drive their actions and learn how to consciously reshape them.

Whether you want to improve your relationships, make better decisions, break unhelpful habits, or gain greater self-understanding, this book provides a clear and practical roadmap for change.

Available in Paperback and Kindle Edition.

Why I Wrote This Book

Throughout my years as a psychologist, I noticed that many people struggle not because they lack motivation or intelligence, but because they do not understand the underlying patterns driving their behaviour.

Again and again, I saw the same question emerge:

“Why do I keep doing this even when I know better?”

The Human Algorithms framework grew from a desire to answer that question.

This book was written to help people see beneath the surface of thoughts, emotions, and behaviours, to understand the invisible systems shaping their lives and discover how those systems can be intentionally changed.

My hope is that this framework gives readers a practical way to understand themselves with greater clarity, compassion, and confidence.

This book is for anyone who wants to better understand themselves and create meaningful change.

You may find it particularly valuable if you:

    • Feel stuck in repeating patterns or habits
    • Struggle with overthinking, anxiety, or emotional overwhelm
    • Want to make clearer, more intentional decisions
    • Are interested in psychology and neuroscience
    • Work as a therapist, coach, educator, or helping professional
    • Want practical tools rather than abstract theory
    • Are curious about how thoughts, emotions, and behaviour interact

No prior psychology knowledge is required.

    What You Will Learn

Inside this book, you will discover:

The Human Algorithms Model: A practical framework for understanding how behaviour is formed and changed.

The Emotional Algorithm: How emotions are generated, maintained, and regulated.

The Decision-Making Algorithm: A five-step framework for making more effective decisions.

The Habit Algorithm: How habits develop and how lasting behavioural change occurs.

Understanding yourself is the first step toward changing your life

    Author

Swati Lahiri Basu is a psychologist and the founder of Human Algorithms, a framework dedicated to understanding how hidden patterns shape human thought, emotion, behaviour, and decision-making.

Drawing on psychology, neuroscience, behavioural science, and systems thinking, her work explores the invisible mechanisms that influence how people think, feel, relate, and act. Through an integrative and practical approach, she seeks to make complex scientific concepts accessible and meaningful for everyday life.

The Human Algorithms is her first book and introduces a new way of understanding human behaviour, not as fixed traits or flaws, but as patterns that can be recognised, questioned, and consciously rewritten. Her work aims to empower individuals to develop greater self-awareness, make more intentional decisions, and create lasting personal change.

Based in Australia, Swati works with children, adolescents, and adults while continuing to develop the Human Algorithms framework through writing, education, and psychological practice.
